There are a variety of possible reasons for why KOR aren’t getting any updates.
1. The demand isn’t high enough.
At the end of the day, Voltage Inc is a business and they have to make a profit to pay their employees and be able to continue what they’re doing. If KOR isn’t one of the most popular games and the revenue they are getting from it isn’t enough for them to invest more time and energy into the game, they most likely will not update it for the time being.
I cannot stress this enough. There are MANY videos on Youtube of people uploading Voltage’s routes for free for others to see. This HURTS the ENTIRE COMMUNITY because it’s basically stealing Voltage’s work. They are losing A LOT of money through this and some people just flat out refuse to stop the harm they’re doing. Due to this, Voltage could be actually loosing more money than they are making, therefore hurting them in the long run. This could be another potential deterrent to them not wanting to translate any more routes when they could instead be using the time and effort on other things that people will pay for in Japan.
3. Other games are taking priority
Other games might be more popular at the moment, which is why Voltage is heavily advertising them or working on updates for them. There is simply higher demand for other games and not as much demand for KOR, so it makes sense from a business standpoint for Voltage to focus and devote their resources to higher profit games instead.
I do hope that Voltage will, over time, get the Youtube videos taken down and hopefully update some of the older games that obviously still have a huge fanbase. I think that would be key for them to keep their fanbase alive, as I know myself and several others in the community get frustrated or sad that the older games are being ignored.
Big shoutout to chiapeto for organizing Voltage Nostalgia Week so that we can show Voltage that we still adore the old games and want to support them!
